Steve Ralphs is one of the UK’s top bowyers, especially for making
traditional English Longbows and Warbows :) Nothing is better than the real
thing of shooting a longbow and I’m glad Ridley let the actors shoot their
arrows because it makes the movie look and feel more authentic. Sequel,
Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel, Sequel 😀

Love it when a movie strives for authenticity. You really get into it and
it makes the whole experience much better. I grew up with the TV version of
Robin Hood (Richard Green) so I didn’t think I would like this rendition of
the story. Boy was I wrong.

The bow has always been superior to the musket or arquebus until the
1800’s. prior to that, guns suck just because of reload time and
unreliability. One skilled archer= Ten noob musketeers.

i wonder sometimes ,if you lined 100 trained mideviel archers and 100
muskateers from say 1750,10 rounds or say 20 rounds apiece.who would win
that battle?i think most everyone knows that answer.oh and no armour.i hate
bieng morbid but thats my argument for the longbow.

Nope just can’t get it, but I’m lethal with an arrow though shoot them all
the time, it’s that bow I just can’t figure out…

Most people who start longbow/warbow archery first draw to an anchor at
their face, That’s how I started when I was 10. But as practice wears on,
you start to want to shoot more authentically, and drawing all the way to
the ear becomes more instinctive. when you draw to the ear, the arrow kinda
cants to the left if your a right handed archer, or vise versa, and you
have to instinctively point the bow in the right direction, rather than
line the arrow up with the target. But it takes practice.

i’m jealous. I really want to be able to get a plain longbow like that,
maybe 45lb, but can’t find anything (at least nothing affordable or nothing
    that doesnt look mechanical)

Pretty ironic that the woman who shot a flaming arrow doesn’t say “firing”,
“fire”, or “fired” like Russell does.
